August 16th, 2006
Trolltech has announced the Qtopia Greenphone which is the world’s first Linux open Linux mobile device for application developers to create, modify and test Linux- based mobile phone applications on a working GSM/GPRS device, making the applications easier to build and faster to bring to market.
“With Greenphone, the sky is the limit when it comes to creating and testing new applications on a powerful mobile device platform,†said Haavard Nord, co-CEO, Trolltech. “Developers can create applications to suit the evolving needs of carriers and end users with a dramatically reduced development cycle,†added Eirik Chambe-Eng, co-CEO, Trolltech.
The Qtopia Greenphone has many communication functions and features found in today’s sophisticated smartphones albeit it will never hit the commercial market. The features include touch-screen and keypad UI, QVGA color screen, Intel Xcale 312MHz PXA270 processor, 64MB RAM, 128MB Flash, miniSD card slot, Bluetooth and mini-USB port.
Qtopia Greenphone is currently being demonstrated at Linuxworld in San Franciscoin Trolltech’s booth, #1228. Greenphone will be available mid-September in limited quantities only.
