DNA Pendants – a Unique Way to Remember Loved Ones

April 5th, 2006

There are many ways to remember people we loves – saving a lock of hair or faded photos, recording their sounds or video. Two days ago, I posted about Your Personal Diamond – Diamonds Made from Human Hair. It’s also a revolutionary way to remember them with diamonds. Apparently, I’ve found two other similar services that allows you to save a piece of DNA in a cheaper jewelry – not the pricy diamond – made of silver.

The first one is a Japanese company, Eiwa Industry Co, and the second one is Perpetua, a US company.

DNA Pendants - a Unique Way to Remember Loved Ones

The DNA silver pendants from Eiwa company (pictured above) are in shape of human face. Quoted from MSNBC about Eiwa’s DNA pendants:

The human DNA pendants come in two shapes. One resembles a rounded perfume bottle. The other is shaped like a stylized human face, cut in such a way that it can fit together with a second pendant of the same shape — “for couples,” Ikai said.

Made of silver, the pendants are $428, including the cost of extracting DNA — usually from a strand of hair or piece of fingernail. The genetic material is placed in a crystal, which in turn is enclosed in the pendant.

And some overview about Life Jewels by Perpetua:

The DNA rests in the channels of a sterling silver double helix and is embedded in acrylic. Crowned with a sterling silver cap, the pendant arrives with a heart-shaped tag engraved with Perpetua’s logo (you can engrave the other side with your pet’s name). The resulting Life Jewel™ Pendant is a lovely and truly one-of-a-kind keepsake of your animal companion. We also provide a signed certificate card verifying that the DNA in your Life Jewel™ Pendant is actually from your companion.
